According to the club manager Quique Setien, Messi suffered a ‘fierce knock’ during the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie against Napoli at the Camp Nou.
“Lionel took quite a fierce knock in that challenge from Koulibaly. But I don’t think it’ll become a big problem for him,” Setien said after the game.
Barcelona had gone into the game with the away-goal advantage after the 1-1 draw in Naples and they managed to produce a solid performance to secure a 3-1 win at home to proceed with a 4-2 aggregate.
Messi had a brilliant outing in the game and earned a penalty for his side after a foul by Kalidou Koulibaly in the 39th minute; an occurrence that left the Argentine captain with some pain and misery.
Messi was able to overcome the knock to play through the remainder of the second leg and Barcelona will hope that he is fully fit when they come against Bayern Munich in the quarterfinal of the competition.
Barca is scheduled to face Bayern in a one-legged quarter-final tie at the Estadio da Luz on Friday night and can’t afford to lose Messi who has 31 goals and 26 assists across all competitions this season.
We are sure to see more from the player in the next week to come but there is only one thing on our minds now.
Which team will suffer the quarter - final faze?
