The song title is obviously a nod to his now-viral revelation that he had a romantic relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith, which she famously described as an "entanglement" in a recent Red Table Talk episode. August has been in the headlines and continues to do press runs addressing the situation, with many people claiming he's using the Smiths for publicity and to promote his album.
"If you look up the definition of 'entanglement,' it is a complex and difficult relationship. It was exactly that," he told Vulture. "I think it’s just the language that probably stuck out to people. But I definitely have to agree with it being an entanglement. It definitely was something complicated, a complicated dynamic."
"Entanglements" won't be Alsina and Ross's first track together, and according to Rick Ross, it's only the debut single from the singer's next album Entanglement.
"That boy August got real talent now," Ross recently said on Instagram Live. "That n***a can really sing now. If that n***a drop that album next month … Entanglement, the album, coming soon. That bitch will go."
August, of course, is turning lemons into lemonade, and – whether it was premeditated or not – is capitalizing off the headlines surrounding his "entanglement" with the married actress.
