Good day grammarians and welcome to today's class.
Today, let's have a look at what an *ADJECTIVE* is.
An adjective is a word used in painting a vivid picture of a noun or pronoun. In other words, adjective is a descriptive word. And it indicates things like size, shape, colour, age, origin, or material. If you really want to re-create sense impressions in your writing, you need to embellish it with adjectives. Adjective makes your content more specific and interesting. So, how do you identify an adjective? Simple! It is usually placed before the noun or pronoun that it describes.
Examples:
1. Mary received a RED box filled with chocolate. (colour)
"red" is the adjective while "box" is the noun.
2. The BIG table in my room need to be fixed. (size) "big" is the adjective while "table" is the noun.
3. Could you pass the WOODEN spoon to me? (material) "wooden" is the adjective while "spoon" is the noun.
4. This is an OLD dress. (age)
"old" is the adjective while "dress" is the noun.
5. The ROUND glass is broken. (shape)
"round" is the adjective while "glass" is the noun.
6. I love ITALIAN food. (origin) "Italian" is the adjective while "food" is the noun.
Note that many adjectives are formed out of noun.
Examples:
1. rain (noun) = rainy (adjective)
2. beauty (noun) = beautiful (adjective)
3. courage (noun) = courageous (adjective)
4. tragedy (noun) = tragic (adjective)
5. envy (noun) = envious (adjective)
This reminds me of some common errors in adjective. Let's
